Krasnodar, 1 September. Krasnodar krai is keeping the nation’s lead on laying new fruit orchards.
Since the beginning of this year, 614 hectares of new orchards have been planted in the region, which is over 40% of the yearly plan. The trees are planted twice a year – in spring and in autumn.
The regional Ministry of Agriculture and Processing Industry was quoted as stating that horticulture receives weighed support in the region. In 2015, the federal and regional budgets allocated 275.3 million roubles to support fruit farming.
“This year, the support volume has reached 800 million roubles. The money is used to plant berry fields and orchards, installation of trellis and trickle irrigation. Over the past five years, 8,500 hectares of orchards have been planted, including 6,700 hectares of intensive-type orchards,” the Ministry stated. Besides, in the framework of the regional program “My Garden,” the regional budget compensates for up to 90% of the money spent to lay out three-hectare and bigger-sized orchards.
